Our Story

The seed for BA Book Design was planted at a holiday dinner conversation about books.

Alice Rose and Bethany DiLello, two bibliophiles, had a lot to talk about around the table. As a graphic designer, Bethany explained her obsession for book covers and that it would be a dream to design book covers in collaboration with writers.

As they went on discussing their favorite genres, Alice remarked, “I think everyone should write a memoir!” Bethany’s mother, Diane, chimed in to explain that her father had written a short memoir years ago about being shot down over Germany at the end of WWII. Both Bethany and Alice jumped at the chance to turn this manuscript into a book, as a gift to Bethany’s family.

Diane provided them with a box of photos, letters, and the manuscript itself. While Bethany began retyping and formatting her grandfather’s memoir, Alice sorted through the box, curating different media that would complement the written text.

The project quickly evolved to include an introduction, the memoir itself, an afterword, a detailed map, photos, and letters to his parents and fiancée announcing the liberation.

The book was a success! Bethany’s family was pleased to have such an important part of their history collected into a beautiful book. BA Book Design was on its way.

This initial project opened conversations with several aspiring authors who were interested in publishing their work. BA Book Design was launched to help those who wanted to see their work published.
